Call for Abstracts
Sustaining the Industry for the Next Generation

The 2024 SLCan Conference Committee is exploring the following topics as the focus of this year's conference:

  1. DEI – Accessibility and Inclusion in Labs

  2. Reduction in Embodied Carbon and Net Zero Goals

  3. From Incubation to Commercialization

  4. Greening Operations and Policies

Under the lens of these four pillars, how are you/we…

  • Supporting science research and growth in Canada? I.E., policy, design, research parks, etc.

  • Developing space that will meet our net zero carbon goals?

  • Developing space that top scientists want to work in?

  • Going beyond minimum code standards to make spaces accessible and accommodating for accessible devices?

  • Advancing, promoting and supporting the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in your planning and design work?

  • Supporting DEI and/or accessibility policies in your new laboratory planning?

  • Operating laboratories to meet reduced embodied carbon goals?

  • Supporting the development from incubation to commercialization?

  • Facilitating early collaboration with users and facilities, maintenance and operations teams to better design laboratory space and meet the end-user expectations?

Abstract submission deadline EXTENDED: JUNE 5, 2024

Abstracts

Abstracts should be submitted for consideration as oral presentations in an in-person environment. Presentations are to be 30 minutes in length.

Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and must include biographies for all presenters.

Abstracts may be submitted in English or French and must be submitted using the form. Note that all sections of the form must be completed to be considered.

Special Attention will be given to abstracts that:

Focus on new developments and technologies;

Evaluate a completed project's performance by presenting documented results over a period of time; and,

 

Are presented by the facility owner.

Official Languages

Initial abstracts may be submitted in English or French.

 

All final abstracts and presentations crediting federal government employee authors must be submitted in English and French. 

 

Any organizations with translation capabilities are encouraged to provide their abstracts and presentations in English and French. 

Presenter Registration

All presenters are required to register for the Conference by September 11, 2024.

 

ONE discounted registration ($650 + tax) will be made available for each accepted presentation. Additional presenters will be required to register at the full rate.

 

The discounted registration can only be claimed by filling out the PDF registration form provided with the presentation confirmation notice and returning it to info@slcan.ca.

Final Presentations

PPT presentations must be submitted for review by subject experts.

 

Authors must revise their PPT as required by the reviewers.

 

The PPT will be made available on the SLCan website following the Conference in the members only section.

Presentation Recording

Authors of accepted presentations must submit a recording of the final presentation.

 

The recording will be due by November 13, 2024.

 

The recording will be made available in the event app following the Conference.
